a little bit of my story

...always a bit of a rocking bird...living in Geneve, London and Buenos Aires, traveling every time we have time and money. 

Married a philosopher ..had a son and a daughter, (a ton of fun and travel)...happy years in motherland...took a class in pottery with the goal of remaking everything in my kitchen...began making "cosas" for my friends got a space in a group ceramics studio in palermo, Buenos Aires...constantly inspired by the work of 20th century studio potters: lucie rie, beatrice wood, the japanese artist rosanjin-kitaoji... japanese folk pottery...and etc etc etc...

...for the moment the hope is to keep making things I find useful and beautiful and send them out into the world...nothing makes me happier than saturday night at the studio listening music and trying new ideas...not much interested in production pottery...usually like a shape or an idea and make 10 or 12 of each...a few always fail to survive in one way or another...try see if anyone wants them...and they are off...Now I am actually living in London, and working with my pottery at Turning Earth, it is a ceramics studio run by potters for potters, in Hoxton. http://turningearthceramics.co.uk/

Lindsay Emery, "Como artistas nuestro trabajo es imperfecto. estas imperfecciones son nuestra identidad."

A veces uno se identifica desde la forma otras veces desde el proceso. Este texto es parte del blog de Lindsay Emery, espero que les guste.
I had an art teacher tell me once, "Don't try to cover up your mistakes in art, you'll just draw more attention to it. People will know you were ashamed of your work and tried, unsuccessfully to hide it. Instead find a way to celebrate it. Draw even more attention and make sure people see the mistake. Turn it into something beautiful.
As artists our work is imperfect. These imperfections are our individual markings.

I can throw a perfectly symmetrical pot, thanks to the even speed and spinning of my pottery wheel and a patient touch. I can, as in I have the ability to. I think this is important to mention. Laziness and lack of skill is not a valid excuse for making work of "celebrated mistakes." It is important to learn your craft, and to know the rules before breaking them. There should always be a desire to learn more about your art. Celebrating your mistakes is about finding your greatest resources for learning and individualizing your work.

All my pots begin round, that is part of my working process using a pottery wheel. For years I watched as these pots became off-round, unintentionally off-round. Picking up a piece that was too wet, my hands would dent the round bowl. I would try to hide it, but could never completely reshape it. I throw really thin, and the uneven, licking flames of the gas kilns at school would subtly push my pots off center during their firings. This was very frustrating for me. Until I realized one day that there was a beauty to this work that I was not full exploring. My method changed. Instead of trying to "fix" the pot, I tried to use my hands to express the individual personality of that piece. I pushed, pulled and altered until what would have been poorly hidden mistakes became instead carefully executed, soft, organic forms. I am pleased with my work. I still make mistakes constantly, but with each accident I see now an opportunity to grow.
Take a minute to acknowledge your successes. Next, ask yourself: What is the biggest weakness in my work? Now find a way to turn this into something beautiful, personal and celebrated. I guarantee you will be able to watch your work improve as you slowly accept your own imperfect mark.

Mi primer plato. Quedó bastante bien

Velas

Hice 2 porta velas luego de hacerlos en el torno los deforme y agregue algunas texturas y paso de luz.

Tierra

En estas dos piezas a la cerámica que usamos se le agrego tierra roja del norte argentino.
Me gusto trabajar con este tipo de material ya que le dio a la pasta una consistencia agradable para usar en el torno.

Abrir y Cerrar

En estas piezas usamos un material en el engobe que al modificar la forma de la pieza la craquela.

Letras, tiza de pigmento y esmaltes

Ahora tambien tengo letritas para agregar. Veremos que hago.

De planchas

VArios de estostrabajos los hice mediante la utilizacion de planchas, no en el torno. Por lo general uso esmalte transparente. Algunas veces mate y otras brillante.

De apoco me voy animando a usar color pero el resultado aun no es el que espero.

Si bien se pueden ver influencias de una en otra Ruth Tomlinson y Veleria Nascimento tienen mucho en comun pero usan la imegen en distintos objetos. Tanto una como la otra creo que logran cosas maravillosas.

Cuando vi sus trabajos me di cuenta que junto a la ceramica esta la felicidad de las formas.

Kirsten Coelho

Mirando algunos blogs me encontre con el trabajo de Kisten Coelho. Que logra una terminacion como si la pieza se hubiera oxidado muy interesante. Con una imagen muy simple logra usar una tecnica compleja.
Vale la pena investigarla.

Cherry blossom

Esta jarra es parte de un trio. Pintado con pigmentos y esmalte transparente mate. ( del que cuesta revolver ) En esta jarra lo mas complicado fue el tema de la altura con el poco diametro. Salio un poco mejor en cuanto al centrado pero faltaa bastante.

Esta es una falsa tabla que se rompio el mango y ahora es un plato... cuanto falta para que salga algo centrado... Pero estoy mejorando. Estoy haciendo unos platos chiquitos que mejoraron mucho. Centro Centrar Centrar centrar.

Oxido de cobalto??

En este objeto use oxido de cobalto ( creo...me tengo que fijar) y lo que hice es esfumarlo con una esponja para que no se vean las pinceladas. Después le puse esmalte loza brillante.
Es una pieza que salio mal porque no pude retornearla ya que se seco antes de tiempo.

Dale Cuerda

Estamos invitados a tomar el te. La tetera es de porcelana pero no se ve.

Yo no se porque?...

Esta lechera tiene esmalte transparente mate y esmalte rosa en la cuerda.

El resultado bueno pero no ideal. Me quedo la textura bastante rustica. No se si es por el tipo de ceramica o por el trabajo que hice yo.

Primera pieza

Esta pieza en el exterior tiene esmalte transparente mate sobre el bizcocho y en el interior pigmento crema con un borde de pigmento azul.
Lo que me llama la atencion es la suavidad que le dio el esmalte y como aclaro los pigmentos.
No veo la hora de usarla.

mmm Yogurt

mmm Yogurt ideal para el desayuno o la cena Ottolengui de la noche.

Una sola pieza de los pies a la cabeza.

Esta pieza esta torneada como una sola pieza y al finalizarla le corte la tapa en un corte en diagonal para que pueda apoyar y cerrar.
no la pinto nunca... no encuentro como la quiero terminar....


Pd. Finalmente la termine. Quedo pintada de esmalte Verde turquesa y  pinceladas de cobalto. Ahora esta en el horno... Apenas la tenga la subo

Maceta 1

 

Mi suculenta tiene casa. Esta fue mi segunda pieza. Intento ser una taza de cereales pero termino en maceta. La base era muy fina y al querer terminar el fondo. Me quedo un lindo agujero.

El color del interior es oxido numero 9 con un esmalte transparente brillante. Cuando lo pinte se veia pleno pero despues del horneado se ven las pinceladas. Tampoco era eso lo que queria lograr...jej
